Beyond Retaliation: A Call for Nonviolence

In the aftermath of the recent World Trade Center Towers and U.S. Pentagon disaster, we, the
undersigned, offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to all those whose lives have been
touched by this unprecedented tragedy.

We also affirm our deeply held conviction that retaliation and revenge can never resolve
conflict, and will only perpetuate continuing cycles of violence and terrorism.

In addition, we believe that both violence and nonviolence are learned behaviors, and we
commit to promoting peace and fostering justice by moving beyond the impulse to retaliate,
and by teaching -- and demonstrating -- the power of nonviolence.

Moreover, we resolve to support peaceful, humane, and nonviolent means of conflict resolution
locally, within our own communities, and we urge governmental leaders -- in the United States
and throughout the world -- to lead by peaceful example and to adopt nonviolent,
nonretaliatory measures in responding to any/all acts of domestic and international violence.

~ I disagree:

Why must we learn compassion?

Because is our true nature to love unreasonably.

Satsang with my Self.

It is my greatest joy.

What prevents that from happening right now?

It is not something that happens. That's what.

It just is.

Right now.

THIS is my greatest joy.

THIS. Before my eyes.
THIS. Before my breath.
THIS. Before my body.
THIS. Before my thoughts.

This Sweetness.

Absolutely Delicious.

This is an official Nonduality Statement:

Anyone who does not sound like Ramana, Nisargadatta, or the current crop
of popular nondual teachers, is to be considered not yet fully realized.

This policy remains in effect until 31 December 2007.

--Jerry Katz

Thanks for the Laugh Jerry - couldn't that be interpreted as
if this planet is the only one in the universe where "realized creatures"
could be manifested?
Not to mention the perspective, those in a lineage are serialized whereas
some artists are surrealized. And the cats here are furrealized...

JODY

Uh, does this mean I need to speak in an Indian accent now?

:-)

ok, - all is illusion.
(how am I doing ?!)

JB

NINA

Jerry,

Think of the official Nonduality Statement with "realized" as a verb
rather than a noun and the whole thing takes on a pleasantly quaint,
Monty-Pythonesque quality... a universe where we taste with our ears
to tell our eyes what is seeable.

This notion of partial realization (as compared to full realization)
is fun, as well... you know me, kind of... I know you, kind of...
until December 31, 2007, when all will be revealed.

Er..

I think there are movie rights in this somewhere. I have dibs.

WE HAVE NOT COME TO TAKE PRISONERS

We have not come here to take prisoners,
But to surrender ever more deeply
To freedom and joy.

We have not come into this exquisite world
To hold ourselves hostage from love.

Run my dear,
From anything
That may not strengthen
Your precious budding wings.

Run like hell my dear,
From anyone likely
To put a sharp knife
Into the sacred, tender vision
Of your beautiful heart.

We have a duty to befriend
Those aspects of obedience
That stand outside of our house
And shout to our reason
"O please, O please,
Come out and play."

For we have not come here to take prisoners
Or to confine our wondrous spirits,

But to experience ever and ever more deeply
Our divine courage, freedom and
Light!

("The Gift" versions of Hafiz by Daniel Ladinsky)

MELODY

ºStudent: "What is the purpose of suffering?"
ºPoonjaji: "Who would ever search for the truth unless they
suffered?"

from Osho:

"This pain is not to make you sad, remember. That's where people go
on missing.... This pain is just to make you more alert--because
people become alert only when the arrow goes deep into their heart
and wounds them. Otherwise they don't become alert. When life is
easy, comfortable, convenient, who cares? Who bothers to become
alert? When a friend dies, there is a possibility. When your woman
leaves you alone--those dark nights, you are lonely. You have loved
that woman so much and you have staked all, and then suddenly one day
she is gone. Crying in your loneliness, those are the occasions when,
if you use them, you can become aware. The arrow is hurting: it can
be used. The pain is not to make you miserable, the pain is to make
you more aware! And when you are aware, misery disappears."

Osho Take it Easy, Volume 2 Chapter 12

NDS

Context: 911, terrorism, concealed history,
governmental lies and corruption

Warning: Do not go to this URL if you are
easily upset. This webpage contains
statements which may be indefensible,
offensive to persons who are of certain
nationality, religion, or who prefer to
maintain blind trust in the government
of the USA.

It also contains several very interesting
links to external documentation.

Title:

"What Should be the
Response to Violence?"

Quotes:

"The CIA trained Osama bin Laden.

"Most Americans have no idea of
the extent of the activities of the
secret agencies of the U.S. government.
For example, Osama bin Laden was
trained by the CIA.

(See the 1998 MSNBC article,
Bin Laden comes home to roost. [msnbc.com].)"

And: (topical to NDS)

"True power is not adversarial.
Those who are really powerful can
have a strong influence just by
voicing disapproval.

"Those who have strong influence
merely by expressing what they want
are more powerful than those who
have to pay money to fight enemies. "

The above is the best observation
you've ever shared here, Tim,
and it's more insightful than a
whole week of tiresome TV pundits
could manage. Thanks!

BRUCE

It's important to let our leaders know that Americans won't support
playing into the terrorists' hands by responding with escalating
violence.

http://www.moveon.org/justice/

One of the top-rated suggestions was to send the following letter
to the President and Congressional Representatives:

To combat terrorism, we must act in accordance with a high
standard that does not disregard the lives of people in other
countries. If we retaliate by bombing Kabul and kill people
oppressed by the Taliban dictatorship who have no part in
deciding whether terrorists are harbored, we become like the
terrorists we oppose. We perpetuate the cycle of retribution
and recruit more terrorists by creating martyrs. Please do
everything you can to counsel patience as we search for those
responsible. Please ensure that our actions reflect the
sanctity of human life everywhere. Thank you.

We've mounted a petition campaign, called "Justice, not Terror",
that delivers exactly this message. Please add your voice at:

http://www.moveon.org/justice/

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending
spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead
of diminishing evil, it multiplies it... Through violence you
may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact,
violence merely increases hate.... Returning violence for
violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a
night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that."
- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
